This post will take you through a few simple steps to upgrade your Embassy to EmbassyOS 0.2.0 (or higher) from anything less. For more details about the motivation behind and features included in this release, see our becoming uncancellable blog post and the official 0.2.0 release notes.

  1. Ensure you have a stable internet connection. Depending on your connection speeds, the update can take up to 30 minutes to complete. For most users, it will take less than 20 minutes.
  2. In the Embassy Companion App, go to the “Embassy” tab and click “Check for Updates”. Then click “Update to Ambassador 0.2.x”. In the prompt, confirm by clicking “Update”.
  3. During the update, your Embassy will emit a gentle beep every 20 seconds and indicate that the update is still in progress. Do not unplug your Embassy during this time.
  4. When the upgrade is complete, the Embassy will chime, and the Embassy Companion App will no longer work.
  5. To reconnect with your Embassy, download the new “Start9 Setup App” for iOS or Android and follow these simple Setup Instructions. Important note: the new setup involves setting a master password for your Embassy, which will replace your current mnemonic*.
  6. You may now delete the old Embassy Companion App from your phone.

That’s it! Please reach out to support@start9labs.com or on Telegram with any questions or issues you encounter during this process.

*EmbassyOS 0.2.0 implements password authentication, transitioning away from the previous mnemonic approach. The mnemonic was essentially being used as a high-entropy password but would be difficult to use in a browser context. Fishing out a 12-word mnemonic every time you want to log in to your Embassy is not a desirable experience.
