New Service: File Browser!
Today we are excited to announce File Browser as the latest addition to the Start9 Service Marketplace! You can view the source code here.
File Browser is a simple yet featureful, private cloud data service. It supports multiple users, complete with permissions, and lets you create, upload, download, edit, organize, and share files of all sorts. You can even set self-destruct timers on the files you share! And it has dark mode 🌘
As with all other services, File Browser is completely private and sovereign; it is self-hosted on your Embassy on its own Tor Onion Service, accessible from the browser simply by visiting its unique .onion URL. There are no trusted 3rd parties between you and your data!
Instructions:
- Upgrade EmbassyOS to ≥ 0.2.4.
- Get File Browser from the Start9 Service Marketplace.
- Copy/paste your File Browser “.onion” URL into the Start9 Consulate (iOS only) or other Tor-enabled browser¹. You should bookmark your File Browser site for future visits, or better yet, save it to your personal Bitwarden Server for a buttery-smooth experience.
- Insert your default username and password. These can be found in the “Properties” section of your File Browser service.
- Optionally change your default username/password. Please note, this change will not be reflected in the “Properties” section mentioned above.
If you update your username or password and forget either one of them, you will be permanently locked out of your File Browser server. There is no password recovery! We recommend either (1) not changing the defaults OR (2) using Bitwarden with proper backups.
Finally, don’t forget to back up your data on a regular basis.
Enjoy!
